We believe that the District has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to affect educational outcomes, improve equity, show responsible stewardship of our capital assets and to ensure fiscal responsibility for Shaker Heights citizens.
A better educational and facility plan is needed that is more efficient with tax dollars; it is worth getting it right.
Tell the District - do what’s best for Shaker Heights students, faculty and residents.
The Shaker Heights School District placed a 9.95 mill Capital Bond and Operating levy on the November ballot. This issue will cost you $348 per $100K property valuation each year FOR THE NEXT 37 YEARS and beyond. Shaker schools are already the highest millage in Ohio.
We support public education and the Shaker Schools but this plan as-is, is not best for our community. The district needs to get this once in a generation plan right.
The current plan misses the mark.
We want to invest in Shaker Schools and in our students with a plan that will impact educational outcomes, show responsible stewardship of our capital assets, ensure fiscal responsibility and improve equity.
Found on page 3 of 269 of the District letter to the OFCC submitted May 16, 2023 includes demolition of both wings of historic Woodbury School: "demolition...1927 E & W Academic wings [45,184sf]." See the entire submission here: https://bit.ly/OFCC-SH
The plan also calls for an addition to Fernway school, our newest building in the District. the image to the left is from the OFCC submission
